Streaks

What a streak rest day is, and when to use one

A streak can feel fragile: one missed day and the count resets. A rest day is a planned way to keep the streak alive on a day you can’t check in.

How rest days work in CapyLog

CapyLog builds rest days into your streak:

  • You start with one rest day, and you can hold up to two.
  • Spend one on a day you can’t check in, and your streak holds.
  • If you miss a day while you have one saved, CapyLog covers it automatically.
  • As your streak grows, you earn more.

When a rest day makes sense

Rest days exist for real life: an illness, a trip, a family emergency, or a week when your energy is simply gone. The point is that one unavoidable day shouldn’t undo weeks of effort.

A rest day is not a loophole. If you find yourself using one every week, that is useful information. It often means the habit is too big for the current season. Shrink the habit rather than spending the rest day.

Why streaks should bend a little

A streak that breaks on the first bad day can teach the wrong lesson: that one slip proves you have failed. Research on habit formation points the other way. Missing a single day did not materially affect how habits formed in a 2010 study of everyday habits. We cover that research in our guide on getting back on track.

Bending a streak is not the same as skipping. The goal is consistency over months, not perfection on every single day.

A simple rule of thumb

  • Aim to check in on most days, not every day.
  • Use a rest day when you have a real reason, not out of habit.
  • If you need rest days often, make the habit smaller until it fits your week.

Rest days are built into CapyLog. Track your habits, and let Capy hold the streak on the hard days.
